Phlegm in throat..help!!

My son is 7 weeks old, but was 7 weeks premature. For about 4-5 weeks we are noticing that he seems to have a LOT of phlegm in the back of his throat. He makes a lot of throaty noises that sound like they are coming from his nose but his nose is clear. We have already asked the Ped...twice. 2 diff ones and they seem unconcerned with it but it makes me and DH very nervous. We are so afraid he is going to choke on it or not be able to clear it. Do any of you have any experience with your young baby having extra phlegm? He does seem to get stuck on it every once in a while and he does clear it but we are so afraid that he wont clear it...we got zero sleep last night just listening to him breath. Thanks for any thoughts!!

" Babies this age should not have any! I took my son to the ER when he was very young and the doc told me that. For my son it was stomache acid. He woke up choking about midnight one night. It was coming out his mouth and nose. I quickly cleared it all with the bulb sucker they gave us when we left the hopsital. It just kept coming up. I just knew it was clear snot, but I was wrong. He was started on some medicine to control it that night, but we let him sleep in his swing until we knew it was under control. If you don't think something is right, be persistent, mother knows best! Good luck to you and your little one. "

" NB's are extremely snuffily/loud when they breath and have any mucous...I would just keep his head elevated when he's sleeping if you have concerns so it clears/drains and you don't have to worry so much about him gagging on it. "

" My baby girl had the same thing. She is 5 months old and is very stuffy and has been since she was born. She sneezes all the time and right now has a cold and gets coughing so badly that she starts gagging and throws up. So we have had 3 wks of sleepless nights. I use salin drops every morning and the sucker to get all that out and the salin helps to thin all the mucas out of there and help them swallow it better. We keep her head elevatred at night . Mention it to the dr. next time it could just be allergies. "

" Thanks Ladies. We actually started using the saline drops and sucking out his boogies before each feeding and that has seemed to help a LOT!! It seems like the mucus has thinned out some. We were already using the saline but not before each feeding. And we already keep him at an angle because of the reflux. Thanks for all of your responses. I really appreciate it!! "
