Tummy Time

Hi there, my 2 1/2 month old son hates tummy time and won't even try to lift his head or get up on his forearms. He does everything backwards and tries to get up on his knees instead.
My question is, what can I do to engage him into getting up on his forearms instead of his knees? I've tried his toys, his sister's little boom box with lights, laying in front of him talking to him....it just doesn't seem to work and starting to really fall behind in those milestones. Help! Thanks. Posted on 11/08/09, 01:11 pm |

my son HATED tummy time and even the dr was telling us he had to do it more because he wouldnt pick up his head - wel I worried and worried and then at 6 months old he was rolling all around and doing the baby push ups all on his own! Now he even sleeps on his belly and he is 10 months and crawling everywhere!! You do have to remember that every baby is different and try and not worry :)

Thanks everyone for your encouraging words! I tried some of the alternatives lately and they seem to be really helping my son. Now he can stand tummy time lol.

my son is 3.5 mos and I tuck his arms under his chest for him and kind of prop him up on his elbows...he THEN will tolerate tummy time quite well and hold his head up and push his chest up etc. If I don't tuck his arms under though he can't do it and gets frustrated really quickly and won't handle tummy time for long. TRY that and see if it helps. Also, even with the tucking thing, he's not a fan. As soon as he realized he could roll from front to back, he flops over like a fish as soon as he can. I'm like alot of other ladies on here, I find alternatives and just give him tummy time for as long as he can handle it without screaming.
