Thrush?

My 3 month old has always had a milky tongue, but yesterday I noticed that her cheeks and back of her throat were also mucky. I tried to wipe her cheeks to check for thrush but baby's not keen on this and it was hard to tell if it was coming off or not. A trip to her doc will take a few days and I'm trying to decide whether or not to take her to a walk in clinic later today...anyone dealt with this? She is breast and formula fed, btw....(so am assuming I may need to treat myself as well).

" I was told that thrush would appear as little white spots in the baby's mouth and on the tongue... If you have it, you need a topical cream to go on your nipples or you could reinfect your daughter. I would just go to the clinic to be on the safe side. I hope it is not thrush for you both!! Also, we have a number here in Australia that you can call with these types of questions, and they recommend whether or not you need to go to a doctor, hospital etc or just wait. The calls are all answered by registered nurses. Have you got anything like that where you are? "

" Hi and yes, there's a telehealth number I could call - will probably just bring her into the clinic in any case... "

" My cousin and her son had thrush and she said it was painful for her when he fed. There are natural remedies, not sure how well they work, she had to go to the doc and treat her and her son. It can be very hard to get rid of. "

" My daughter had thrush when she was about a month old. She got some liquid medicine (Nystatin Suspension ) that I had to basically swab onto her tongue (she didn't get it on her cheeks or gums, just tongue). DD was mostly FF but also BF (I didn't need to treat my breasts w/medication). The thrush was persistent. It didn't go away with the first medication, so I had to take her to the doc again and he gave her something stronger (Fluconazole). The second one made it go away. However, it did make her fussier than normal and more sleepy, so her ped. had me reduce the dosage a bit and it made a difference. Make sure to always read the possible side effects. DD had thrush for a total of about one month and I'm just glad she got over it! "
