I have 2 diaper pails, they are the automatic ones that open with a wave of the hand, so they are closed all the time....Just recently I have noticed when I change the bags there are some type of gnats or something in the pails. My house is very clean, where are these things coming from, I don't want my whole house to get infested with these things...Has anyone else had this problem or have any advice where they are coming from & how to get rid of them.....

sounds like fruit flies, they can come home with you from the store especially on things like bananas... bug spray usually does the trick if you don't have that many

Clean the diaper pail with vinegar, apple cider vinegar, or dish soap. It might be a good idea to move the pail out of your child's bedroom until they clear up to ensure your child's safety.
Do you have any pets or household plants? It might be a good place to start looking for them. Give your carpets a thorough vacuum daily until they clear up. Look for a pet carpet sprinkle- some are designed to kill the little buggers and will kill their eggs. If you keep fresh fruit or veggies in the house, keep it refrigerated until you're ready to use it. Cutting off their food supply is the best way to get rid of them. As for the diaper pail- it might be better to use a regular rubbish bin. The petal bins are easy to use and the lids completely seal, so no bugs can get in. It might be more work taking rubbish out on a daily basis (every other day for an older infant), but it will prevent bugs from getting into the house and keep things smelling fresher.

This can happen with the best-kept house! If ever you have a fly in thehouse..it can get into the pail, as you wave your hand, or maybe other ways, and because it is very happy there with all that poo, will lay its eggs there, and what you have is maggots! Definitely not fruit flies.
I would definitely remove thepails, empty them into a garbage bag, seal it, spray Raid or other bug killer on the maggots to kill them (unless you want them to live), and once dead, spray them outside the house with a hose, preferably on power wash. Once that is done, I would disinfect it with a high-grade cleaner, something that you would use around the bathroom, for example. Let sit, work on the stench, and then rinse throroughly and air dry. And be sure to clean the pails liek once weeksly with some strong detergent for bathroom use, tohelp get rid of anyodours that may otherwise attract flies.
