We're going to see family in NJ over Thanksgiving.. and this might sound stupid to a lot of people.. but we are FLORIDA people and I don't know what I will need?? My DD will be 5 months then.. I've seen these fleece zip up suits.. I don't want to over heat her but I do want to be prepared. And do I get shoes? We're typically barefoot here.. ?? I'm so confused..

I live in Southern Maine so I definitely know how to dress for cold weather! I have to say I'm not sure what NJ is like in November, though, if it's warmer or the same as it is here. One big rule of thumb for dressing infants in cold weather is layers. That way if you overheat them you can just peel a layer off instead of having to change all their clothes. So maybe pants, a long-sleeved onesie, and a sweater/sweatshirt. Or a dress with a long-sleeved onesie and warm tights. I would be cautious with fleece, especially this early in the year. It is not cotton so it doesn't breathe well, and I know I get way overheated easily in fleece. As far as shoes... you can just do warm socks. My daughter is 5 months and I just started putting her in Robeez when we leave the house -- they keep her socks on and are an added layer of warmth for her feet. But it might not be worth the investment to you if you live in FL. Good luck!

Alh071 is very right. Using multiple layers of thin clothing will do the trick.
The weather here is similar to NJ/PA. For the winter months, I normally have my daughter in a short sleeved singlet, a long sleeved shirt, and then I put a vest over it. On the really cold days, I put stretch pants underneath her pants, a long sleeved singlet, and give her a thicker shirt. The vest prevents her from losing too much heat, yet allows excess heat to leave. If her feet are too cold, I normally double up on socks- the under pair will be anklets, while the top pair will be thicker. I found it easier to tuck the baby into the car seat with blankets rather than a jacket. Just in case, take next size up clothes along. Your daughter will be due for a growth spurt around the time you're taking the trip!

I was told to put the baby in one layer more than you are wearing.
However if you're moving around/exercising or in the sun, you must also take into account that the baby is still and in the shade and will feel cooler. If you go out in the wind that can be very chilling too.
