My little girl is getting constipated! And that leads to hours of screaming at the top of her lungs with only ten minutes power naps.
Marlow is only a month old, and we had been giving her oval for gas. We have also tried infacol and gripe water. My fiancees best pal is a pharmacist and he said that we could try docusate drops for infants but if we could find another way then we should go for it. Tonight it the screaming started late and we had no stores open to get her anything really so I ran to a grocery store right before it closed and bought prune juice. Gave her about 10mls. But I don't know if I should be doing that on a regular basis. She hasn't pooped but she's sleeping after the juice. Does anyone have any ideas about how to deal with constipation other than what I've tried. Or has anyone used infant ducosate drops and could tell me if they were successful? thanks Posted on 09/18/09, 02:09 am |

Ok constipation was a pain in out parenting ass for months, so try water, plain at first and always a little warm as the tend not to like it cold, ain to give between half an ounce and an ounce after every feed, if plain water doesnt work add half a teaspoon of organic light brown sugar to 4 ounces of water and try giving half an ounce of this after 1st feed then plain water after next feed then sugar water again etc....
My daughter pooped well when we were alternating the sugar and plain water but then decided to refuse the water in a bottle and was eventually prescribed lactulose which is monster poop juice in my opinion it works way tooo well! Is your daughter BF or FF? it may be an idea to find out why she's constipated and see if you can rectify that, for us we changed her formula from hungry baby to easy digestion. good luck! x

If you are breast feeding, drink a ton of orange juice... I don't remember where I heard that but it worked like a charm for me ;)

Try daily baby massage. If your daughter has constant problems with this, it would help a lot- regardless if its from colic or constipation.
Here's a link to some very informative youtube videos on it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PI... Follow the related and more video links for other techniques. (This series explains how to set up an area, shows you how to arrange the pillows so that the baby is most comfortable, as well as really good massage techniques- I recommend watching them all if you can!) If you do decide to try baby massage, always remember to move in clockwise motions from the navel and below. Just as a warning though, this may bring on a popping session, lol.

My little girl is 2 months old and she started getting constipated at 1 month. My doctor told us to use Prune Juice and gas drops. We give her 2 ounces a day. 1 ounce in the morning and one at night. We give her the gas drops after each feeding. She is doing alot better now. The juice makes her poop... BIG TIME POOP lol. We've been giving it to her for about a month now. Sometimes she still tends to get constipated but no where near as bad as it was at first. She would scream and scream. And we would notice her trying her hardest to get it out. It would break my heart because she tried to hard. Try these methods and see if it helps.

I was strictly breast feeding but due to production problems I had to start supplementing formula. The formula cleaned her out like neither the prune juice or docusate sodium did!
Now she poops every three days instead of every seven or eight! Thanks for all the suggestions!

My son is on soy formula and I thought pretty constipated...but he goes every day 3 or 4x a day but he pushes and grunts so hard starts crying and only gives a little marble size poop. Ped said if it became an issue we could put some Karo syrup in his bottle. So I just thought I would share that.
