Dear Friends,
I've been thinking for a while about adopting a baby. I wonder if somebody with RA has gone through the process and if RA was an issue during the home study (or any part of the adoption process). If you could share your experience, I would really appreciate it. Thanks! Posted on 10/14/09, 02:10 pm |

I am pretty new here, so I am sorry if this is a stupid question - but what is RA?
I have an adopted daughter and was a foster mother for a couple of years, so I know most of the home study process. Let me know - I would love to help if I can.

Thanks for answering HeatherLob. RA is Rheumatoid Arthritis. I wondered if it could be an issue.
I'd be adopting my baby from Nicaragua, but whether you adopt in the us or international, you have to go through the same process more or less. Could you please share about the home study experience? Thanks!

Depending on where you are adopting from, the potential parents health can be an issue. I had a friend who tried to adopt from China and she had borderline diabetees and was denied.
Make sure that your agency informs you if medical conditions would be a factor.

I have RA and was a foster parent first and when we decided to adopt a medically fragile child we had no problems. There will be a form the agency gives you to have filled out by your doctor and it will ask if you have any health problems that would prevent your being a good parent and the doctors answer to that question will be the key. Most of the time the answeres are no it should not stop an adoption.
