Hello. I am an adoptee and a friend of mine just told me a story that sparked me to ask this question for anyone who has adopted a child..is it true that if you have a diagnosis of depression that you can NOT adopt a child??? ANY input would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you in advance :)

" if you recieve treatment and are medically fit and are signed off by your doctor..you can adopt
if on te other hand..your depression comes to light ..and you are not being treated it is a different story..
remember social services, try and keep children with their parents..these parents can suffer many physical and mental health issues...
so they are unlikely to stop you adopting if you are being treated for depression and looking after yourself. "

" This disturbs me, as I am bipolar and have been hospitalized, and my one reason for not having a child would be to not pass on the GENE, not that I would be unfit as a mother.

Sad. "
