Hey, I am new to Daily Strengh- and i needed some advice. I had 4 years of infertility and my husband and I decided to adopt. We just were approved YEAH. And 2 weeks ago I decdied to go to a psychologist to discuss the infertility cause i felt i needed someone to talk to about it. Well my psychologist recommended that I talk to my doctor about getting on Prozac just to get through this difficult time.
Well I spoke to my doc today and was very discouraged she told me that now that I am labled (by her of course since I went to her) as depressed I will have difficulty adopting. And I should discuss it with my social worker for fear I will be denied a child cause I am labled as depressed.

My question is: is it really going to affect my chances in adopting?? I hope not cause it took a lot to get to this point and I was finally feeling better cause we got to this point- now this.

" Can't the doctor just write a medical note to say that the infertility has caused you to be depressed and that you would like temporary medication to improve a short term problem.
This would be my advice if she has already labelled you,if not don't take anything and prove you are not depressed.I would discuss this with your husband too. What does he think? "

" People will "lable you" no matter what.

Be strong. Depression is an illness. You would be suprised how many suffer. Plus how many suffer with out getting help!

If you have an issue with your doctor, on this or any other medical c ondition you have or feel that you can not trust him. Let your feet go to another doctor!
