I saw my GP yesterday...One of the first things he said to me was that he had been reading research on DHEA nd AI. He even spoke to a local endo here in town about it ( my GP has 2 AI patients, me being one of the two) and the local endo said he thought it was looking sort of positive in the research.
I told him I had read some things here in DS and that I even looked at the DHEA at the store but when it said for "Men's health" I hesitated in getting it. he explained that although it is in the family of male hormones, it does not make your body produce testosterone and that I should try it. I will be buying some!

" I have been taking DHEA on and off for several years. I do just buy it over the counter (Mens) but a compounding pharmacist said that he could compound some for me. I just haven't done that yet. "

" I have taken DHEA for about 10 years, after a blood test showed I had zero..
I have it compounded at a pharmacy.
I recently was traveling and ran out and noticed my energy level was much reduced.
There have been studies done with Addison's patients showing DHEA to be helpful. "

" It is one of those things that once your on it for a while, you think your better and can do without. But after a while, you realize you never should have stopped. I am always trying to take the least amount of medicine, sometimes to my disadvantage. So yes, I think it helps by giving a overall feeling of well being. "

" Thank you all for your input!
I feel that way about Vit D...TW. I started taking it after a blood test showed I was low and I feel it is the reason that back then I began to be able to stay awake past 4PM! I take that regularly now, but battle a lot of fatigue still. "

" I just had my DHEA levels tested too and they measured zero. I started a DHEA supplement from GNC, but a guy in my support group recommends the micronized DHEA because it's more pure. Sure will be interesting to see if I feel better. I haven't really been up to going to the gym for about four months and I'm so ready to get back! "

" I started taking DHEA a few months ago when my levels also registered near zero. I was diagnosed two years ago and my doctor should have tested me long before I asked her to considering that in women it is largely the adrenals that produce DHEA. I take 12.5mg per day. I decreased from 25mg because my skin was so unbelievably oily. I have noticed a slight improvement in mood, energy and libido. I would be interested to hear more about the supplement that cokecpl's friend has. "
