Florinef

I was diagnosed with Addison's in August of this yr. Started on Florinef and prednisone by my family dr until I could get in with endo. The florinef made me feel so dizzy and out of sorts. I took it 3 days and each time about 20 min later it made me that way. My endocrinologist told me that I'd eventually have to start it again because my sodium is still slightly low and B/P is staying low. Instead of Prednisone I'm now only on Cortef 20 in the am and 10 in the pm. Did anyone else have trouble with Florinef after just starting? I thought well maybe it's one of those meds your body has to adjust to but it made me feel worse.

" I didn't have side effects with florinef, but my endo wants to reduce my dose. He commented at my last appointment that I shouldn't need it while I'm taking hydrocortisone. I just reduced my dose and he'll continue to monitor my potassium levels. Maybe you could ask your endo about using hydrocortisone and maybe not needing the florinef. "

" Florinef is aldosterone. This is one of the hormones your adrenal glands don't make if you have primary Addison's disease. It usually will correct the problems with the sodium and blood pressure. If your Addison's is not primary, you usually don't need it. Has anyone checked your aldosterone level? Maybe you are reacting to something in the pill other than the aldosterone? I don't know. I don't notice anything when I take it. Hydrocortisone does have some of the effects of aldosterone and for some people taking it is enough. Its kind of a juggling act figuring out what meds you need. Did you doc say anything about what he thought made you feel that way after taking it?

" Yes my Addison's is primary. I don't know why but when I first took the Florinef it made me feel worse than ever. I was so dizzy and spacey and felt faint. I told him about it and he said eventually I'd have to try and take again because my sodium is still low and so is B/P. As of now I take Cortef 20mg in the am and 10 in the pm. I've had no side effects from it but the Florinef I stopped after 3 days. "
