ADDINSON'S AND THE HEAT

On Thursday while I was working I got very HOT!!!! I'm not talking about the average "hot"; I'm talking about dripping sweat "hot"!!!! I was also very dizzy, couldn't breathe and having chest pains. Security was called and they in turn called the paramedics. I was taken to the ER and admitted to the Hospital where I stayed for two days. Thankfully after an Angiogram was done; they said there was nothing wrong with my heart; but what they DID tell me was that I had a "heat stroke"!!!! I've never heard of having a heat stroke in-doors before. What I'm wondering is could this have been caused by my Addinson's? The Dr. didn't seem to know one way or the other. THANKS FOR LISTENING!!!!

" JJJAX,
I can't think of a reason Addison's would cause a heat stroke. Usually it happens when your body can no longer manage to regulate its temperature. It stops sweating and overheats and you get a heat stroke. For me, with my Addison's, I tend to sweat profusely and my doc thinks it is from too much adrenalin in my system trying to compensate for lack of cortisol.
What does come to mind is that the hypothalamus is what regulates body temperature. It also regulates a lot of the endocrine systems by putting out signals for the pituitary. Maybe you have a hypothalamus problem?
Another thing that comes to mind is a pheochromocytoma. Have you ever been checked for that?

Just a few thoughts . . . .

" Thanks I'll ask my Dr. about my hypothalamus and ask him what the pheochromocytoma is because I've never heard of that.

I've always sweated alot; but not as bad as I did on that day. I was really scared. "

" That's so interesting. i've suffered from intense sweating for years, but I never thought that it might be connected to Addison's. Just yesterday I broke out in a sweat inside in an air conditioned room. I just thought that it was related to my genes ( my brother also sweats) profusely and he doesn't have Addison's) or to being close to menopause. I can't do a lot of stuff outdoors in the heat due to my sweating. "

" Actually, I had heat stroke from moving in high temps on friday. And my heart rate went high and i suffering. I have noticed that since I moved in my new air conditioned home, my average heart rate has dropped around 30-40 bpm and I feel much better now and less stressed out of the heat, this addison's stuff is no joke! " oh dear friends, let me tell you why we're all so hot:

IT'S THE DAMN STEROIDS.

it doesn't have to be all the time - although it is for me - but steroids can cause you to sweat profusely. it's awful, horrible, blah blah blah and clearly i hate it! the worst. and yet, they save our lives. those damned little pills.

" When I am out in the sun, I become dizzy and sick to my stomach. I can either just be sitting by a pool or mowing my yard. I was not sure it was related to Addison's or the steriods. But it has only be this summer season that I have noticed it. "

" fighting,

i get the same thing with any bright lights - sun or electrical. I get nauseous, dizzy and start to feel faint. I sweat. Its absurd. I don't know if its related to addison's or not, but I've been that way all my life.
