I have been to two endos and had little luck. My last one says that mental stress has no effect on addison's. Based on how I feel I do not believe that to be true.
I have stressful job in sales and it seems to be effecting me in a big way. Looking for a support group in wisconsin. Posted on 08/07/09, 10:08 am |

I have a stressful job too and stress has a definate impact on me. I'll get back to you on more Wisconsin resources (not that I have many). I am two weeks without acupuncutre, have an appointment tomorrow and can really tell the difference. I think the right dosing of meds, which for me is three times per day, extra on the stressful (emotional or physical) days plus acupuncture for kidneys and stress is effective.

ryan,
I think your doc is nuts. All the literature says that high stress, both physical and psychological, affect the cortisol levels in a normal functioning person, so it only follows that high stress for an Addisonian would require extra steroid. Those docs are stuck in some old thinking methinks. I say you know your body best, and if you feel stressed to the point that you need extra steroid - then you do! sheesh, these know it all doctors make me mad. I can't help you re wisconsin as I'm in alaska, but I hope you can find some support there. Good luck. Vanyel

I agree that stress DOES factor into adrenal issues! even my endo ( who I am not confident in) said "emotional stress" can be a trigger! And I had surgery last year and had to have "stress doses steroids" added! So stress comes in many forms..heck if stress can bring on a heart attack, as they say, I do believe it affects the adrenal glands!
My recent setback, I believe, began as a result of a stressful incident at my job ( and another factor that has nothing do to with emotional stress). (I will add that as I was reading something yesterday about steroids and moods that I considered showing my boss that steroids affect moods so my occassionaly moodiness is "beyond my control! LOL But maybe that won't fly at work! Just trying to lighten it up here!) Currently, I am trying to alleviate certain stressors in my life ( which is no easy task) just to keep my AI in check!
