My fiance has Addison's. He has a lot of junk food in his diet. I would like to know what kind of foods would benefit him and what to avoid. I know he should limit his potassium to no more than three servings a day. Does anyone have any experience or advice?

" I have been diagnosed with Addison's for 20 years. I basically had the typical American diet, junk food, red meat, etc. While I ate this way I ALWAYS wound up getting sick in one way or another, half of the time winding up in the er with a crisis. One year I got sick so much I wound up losing my job. Basically I was never there. I got tired of it all. Then one day I was talking to some of my friends who were vegetarian. I was asking them if they ever got sick as much as I did. It was a resounding answer of NO. So after some research I decided to try it. I started by replacing a few of the items I ate regularly with healthier vegetarian options. It took about a year to completely convert to vegetarian. I notice a change with me. I have been sick only once this year. And that one time was laryngitis. I feel great since I made the change. I don't now if it would work for your fiance, but it might be worth a try. Even if he replaced a few things with vegetarian foods it might make a difference. You can find tons of great recipes online. I made a vegetarian chilli for my dad and he ate 3 bowls in one sitting!! Good luck with it. "

" I think we have a difficult time metabolizing carbohydrates ... so I tend to agree with a vegetarian diet ... or close to one ... I still eat fish and some chicken ... but every time I eat breads I really get sick fast. "
