I am new to Daily Strength and glad to have discovered it. I am a 52 woman recovering from All and the bone marrow transplant. I am also a 22 year survivor of Hodkin's lymphoma. While I am very very grateful to be alive and enjoy my family, friends and life, I am left with the body of an elderly woman. I developed severe osteoperosis from the treatments and meds. I have 7 fractured vertebrae. As a result my torso collapsed and my spine is deformed. I also lost two inches in height, I have trouble processing and digesting food and I am always in pain. I also, like you I am sure can't be in the sun at all. Graft vs. Host issues. I live in Arizona where the sun always shines. Help!
With that said, I can do more everyday but I am afraid that my problems are mechanical in nature and irreversible. I used to be a very independent and active person. I am (was) a scuba diver... blah...blah. It has been very difficult to now be a different person. I have to find out how I fit and where I fit in my life.
Thanks for listening to me vent!

Yeah, I'm with you on that one. I used to be so active, but now I find it more difficult to enjoy the activities I used to participate in. My friends are beginning to think I'm lazy! (Which, I am a bit, but aren't we all?) But I've found that taking leisurely walks a few times a day is rather enjoyable. Plus, I've heard that Arizona is beautiful! You could always carry a parisol or wear a sunhat while you're walking ;).
But, whatever your situation, whether you be a person with an illness, or an overall normal healthy person, we all go through the 'how will I fit in' phase.
My only advice on that, is that only time will tell. And to enjoy your time with friends and family. Being recovering from all these medical issues has to be better than being stuck in a hospital, with tubes sticking out of you every-which-way!

I give you the best of wishes and my prayers are with you! "
