I am hoping to become more educated on the symptoms of childhood Leukemia. And how children are diagnosed. Can you be born with it, or do you just "Get" it? Recently my 5 year old daughters health has rapidly decreased. She was born with Low Blood sugar, and has Asthma. She has always been kinda sickly. But in the past 5-6 months she has changed. She has been sick about 30 times in that short period of time. She has been sick this entire month. Her symptoms are as follows.
Fever 4 out of 5 days last week,Very fatigued...she lays around all the time, sleeps Alot(not her usual self).Pale skin, loss of appetite, bone pain.frequent infections, weight loss, shortness of breath, bruising easy.I am trying not to jump to conclusions , but when I pray about it I got the instant intuition to look up symptoms of leukemia.I was hoping that any one who has a child with this, could give me some advice, and let me know if their are more symptoms that I need to look for. or if these symptoms sound familiar. Thank you for your help, Andrea

" I would recommend that you get your daughter to a doctor/oncologist immediately. If it is any form of cancer, the sooner you start treatment the better. If it is not, then thank the Lord. But either way you need to know and waiting and watching for more symptoms to arise is just a waste of time. I hope I don't come across a harsh, just concerned. Dominica "

" Andrea,
Although I cannot make a diagnosis of anything here (including leukemia), you certainly need to have your child see her pediatrician. If the pediatrician is unaware of the history, describe it as you have here and specifically ask for some routine blood work. Your pediatrician should be able to take it from there.

Please don't jump to any conclusions just yet.

Dr. J "

" I was diagnosed with Leukemia when i was 2 years old. My mom realized I was very sick. I was pale and had a very high fever. My mom took me to the doctor. (our family doctor) he then told my mom that I would have to be sent to an oncologist. This didnt fly with my mom. The doctor didnt want to tell my mom that I had leukemia bc he wasnt an oncologist. He ended up telling her though and we went to the hospital and I was diagnosed with ALL. This type moves very rapidly. I am telling you this as a survivor of leukemia and I also have done a lot of research on it for a paper in college. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take her to the DOCTOR TODAY!!! all you have to do is get blood work done and you will see if it is Leukemia. Leukemia is a cancer of the White blood cells without these ppl will die. It is a good thing that she is young, becuase older ppl do not usually survive. Please take my advise and write back any time. "

" My daughter has All a form of childhood leukemia. Sha had similar symptoms as your daughter. If I were you I would tell your doctor to run a blood test(cbc). It will tell if her counts are low or high. That is what led my daughter's doctor to have further testing done by a oncologist. Don't worry too much. I know how hard it is to wait for results, but in the end it will be worth it. "

" I noticed that you posted this on 02/28/07. Thats quite a while ago. I hope your daughter is fine and healthy. Can you let us know what her doctor said? My five year old was diagnosed with ALL in January 2007 and now she's in remission. If you need any advice just holla. "
