i thought i would give all an update and it has taken me months to get back to normal self after feeling sorry for myself.
endo has said that i can go on other drugs if we want to have a baby, once concieved then i would have to come completely off drugs. this scares me as the tumour could get bigger and may present more problems for me. i dont know if appearance will cahnge again, hands and feet etc etc. i really dont know what to do. i dont know if i can handle being pregnant and hvaing all the aches and pains again putting on enormous weight again not just the baby weight but acro weight as i call it. as i dont know the rate of any of this its really starting to get me down as i dont knwo what to do for the best. the endo said i would be the first acro pewrson at the hospital to hvae baby whilst having acro and they wont know what to do with me and would have me under constant supervision and scans all the time not just my head but baby too. I would like advice really if any body knows what sort of rate things would change??? and if i would lose funding for my drugs because of it?? (nhs) Posted on 09/17/09, 05:09 am |

Hi Flouncy. I'm sorry that i have no real answers to give you, but i am really interested in how pregnancy and acromegaly work together, All i want to do is get over my operation and have another baby :( i realise its not going to be as easy as that and i like you have lots of difficult decisions to make in the future but i dont think i can stand the thougght of never having more children. it just seems so unfair. i will be following your progress with great interest and i wish you every happiness and good health in whatever you decide to do. I hope you can find more information and hopefully get your doctor to give you a bit more support.
Love Lisa xx

Hi there.
I was pregnant with my baby daughter Penny (born 11/07/08) with undiagnosed Acromegaly, possibly even had it when pregnant with my wee boy in 2006. As my doctor thinks my diabetes is caused by my Acromegaly and broad hands/feet then this would suggest I have had the disease for a while? I was only diagnosed 2 weeks ago. Other than the diabetes no other side effects came up that couldn't be attributed to being pregnant (joint pains, palpatations etc.). I think the changes come on gradually so may not be too drastic in 9 months. The doc noticed changes in my face in a year but quite subtle. I guess it all depends on the individual tumour and how it acts on the body. Wish I could give you definite answers but Acromegaly will affect each of us very differently. All I know is that I would have gone ahead with my pregnancies in any case accepting that there would be a lot of medical intervention (scans etc). My MRI scan to look at tumour not till next week so have no idea the stage it is at. Just wanted to let you know my experience in case it was of interest. All the best, will be thinking of you. Evonne x

Please keep me updated on your progress and the decisions that you face. I'm 30 years old and recently married and would love to have children someday. I've been diagnosed with acro since 1996. I have all the same fears as you, and realize that I'll just have to cross one bridge at a time. My husband is very understanding and says he will stand by me no matter what, but we both would like to be parents one day. I'm on the lanreotide injection and dosenex, and was told I have to quit them before conception.

well I think i am just the person you need to talk to.... my name is vikki im 28 years old. i was diagnosed w/ acromegaly in 06... i had my surgery the same year. i thedn went on to medication lar 30 mg... i wanted to have a baby desperatly. i talked to my endo about this, and he explained to me that being pregnant would actually work like the medication.. because of the elevated estrogen. he started me on bromocriptine. i was pregnant within a few weeks (amazing I really am a women).... during my pregnancy the checked me alot for high b.p,diabetes ect.... i did gain alot of weight 80lbs... but let me tell you how worth it it was... i have a beautiful babay 4 months old i breast fed for 1 mointh then had my radiation. im back on lar and fell great.... if u want to know more details just ask...... go for it and good luck
vikki
