Advice:
What is the size of your tumor?

Tumors smaller than 1 cm are microadenomas, larger that 1 cm are macroadenomas, and larger than 3 cm are giant adenomas.

Mine is currently 3.5 x 3.0 x 3.3. I know that it's pretty big.

I have is a giant prolactinoma, for which surgery is not the best option. I hope it will further shrink because of medications I take.

What's your size?

" My tumor originally was 4.8 x 4.6 x 4.8.

Medications helped to shrink it. "Luckily", it is a GH-secreting prolactinoma, which makes shrinkage more significant. "

" By the way - I am still puzzled by how they measure the tumors.
As I understand, they pit tumors are of are of irregular cup-like size. "

" Hi - how are you doing?

Just got the scan results on Tuesday - my tumor is 1.8cm x 1.1cm and they want to surgically remove it. They are going to try monthly injections first as I will have to wait a long time for the surgeon. "

" Mine was 9mm.
Had an op. 8 mts ago.
IGF-1 dropped from752 to125 after the op.
Last MRI done last week showed no more tumour!
IGF-1 and GH still within normal range.
Not on any medication at present. "

" I'm a new member and I am learning a lot from reading about your experiences. My profile contains a history of my experience. I am wondering whether surgery is better for me or should I try taking octreotide for awhile to see how i respond and whether the tumor shrinks. I hear that a lot of people who have surgery end up on meds anyway. "

" ledgy,

1 cm is a pretty small tumor. Depending on its location, the chances of successful surgery can be very good. But, as I understand, octerotide would not hurt you and can possibly shrink the tumor even further.

I would go for a year of octerotide before surgery. "
