My TelDrug order came yesterday and I'm supposed to get my first shot this week but I am reluctant for several reasons. I read on the Drug Mfg website that for first time users you should have daily injections of the immediate release of this medicine to see if you are tolerant and what side affects you experience (if any). Why is my doctor having me go ahead and start the monthly shots without checking to see how I do with the drug beforehand? Also, I am having surgery on Wednesday for my breast cancer and should I even be starting this injection right now. Perhaps I should wait until a week or so after my lumpectomy/radiation is over with....

Hi,
I really think you should speak to the doc, if you start injections, so close to op, you dont know how you will feel, and you dont want to feel rotten before it. sometimes they make you feel sick, and does a few days really matter, see the doc of phone your endo.

I would go ahead with the injection. Excessive growth hormone is the last thing you need when you are dealing with cancer.

Hi Savoursky....I take Sandostatin LAR, just had my 9th monthly injection today. My Endo did have me do the daily injections for 5 weeks before starting the monthly ones. The thing is, everyone's scenario isn't the same. I think you should ask your doctor with the exact words you used above. Your questions are valid and when they go unanswered you worry and stress unnecessarily. Best of luck with everything...you're in my prayers. JaneyBell

I agree with JaneyBell!! Don't be afraid to ask your docs questions. They have a license to "practice" medicine and don't know everything. Sometimes we need to ask them things so they can get advice from other docs that know more than them...ASK ASK ASK!!

My tumor was 2.3cm. I skipped the daily injections and my doctor started me on 10mg Sandostatin LAR. As far as I know I haven't had issues. In fact I've had the dose increased up to 40mg over the last 2 years. Hopefully you won't have issues. Definitely question anything you feel unsure of. Follow your instincts.

Hi everyone! I have been offline for a couple of weeks and just read the responses. Thank you all for your advice/input. I did ask the doc and she said they didnt feel it was necessary to do the daily shots in the beginning but if I wanted to wait for the completion of my radiation I could definitely do that. I actually went ahead with the shot on the last day of my radiation for breast cancer which was yesterday. I just felt like getting started with treatment as soon as possible now that the other was behind me. I feel pretty good today...I hope Sandostatin LAR 20 Mg is going to bring my levels down. Thanks again!
