ok, so i have never been on any form of bc in my life but after 3 kids, i think i am ready to give it a shot, so i talked to my dr. and he gave me a couple of packages of Alesse to try out, so i was kind of excited because i read on the box that it's supposed to help clear acne but then i started doing searches online and read alot of horror stories of people's acne getting worse on Alesse...so i was hoping that some of you guys may have tried this and can give me some thoughts as to whether or not i should give it a try or if there is a better pill for clearing acne? any thoughts/suggestions are appreciated..

I have really sensitive, acne prone...If you try any BC pills, especially for acne, try Yasmin. Don't get the generic though, get the brand name. It is one of the more expensive pills, but WELL worth it. It saved my skin. I've tried many differnt BC pills for acne and had horrible luck with every one, except Yasmin. I tried the generic to save money and I got a horrible reaction from it. Try it, you will love it!!! You will see a change in your acne the first week. Oh, and it has a dieretic in it, so it won't cause bloating like a lot of the other BC pills. Always a bonus!

I have been on Diane 35, but it didn't do anything for me. Tricyclin did nothing as well. I don't think my acne is hormonally based, so unless yours is, BC pills won't do anything. My skin doesn't change at all related to my cycle or pregnancy.

oh, my skin is definitely based on my cycle, i had really nice skin, for about 2 weeks and then boom, major breakout all within a week and that happens every month, i absolutely hate it!i think i will give the pills a shot an dif they make it worse then i will try something else..it would be nice to know though if my hormones are imbalanced and maybe there is something i can try naturally..i really hate screwing with my body but i just can't handle the acne anymore, it is making me so depressed and whe ni'm not depressed i'm angry..i hate leaving the house when i look like this..there's got to something that can help..

i take yasmin, i think its helping. its helped my skin before when i was younger, i take it for the contraceptive reason and because it makes my periods lighter aswel and pms isnt so bad.
I stil get breakouts, but they arent as bad. If you are on the nhs then they can be funny about giving you it, because it is more expensive and has higher risks than other pills. Just keep at them, i just told my doctor that this is the only one that works for me for a number of reasons, and all the other pills have major bad side effects. Not sure how it works though to be honest.

I believe Ortho tricycline lo helped me in high school, but i had to stop taking them and now I'm on the birth control shot and it helps a lot. Also, the nuvaring cleared it up a lot as well as the birth control patch. But the ortho lo is the only pill I think that helped me..and I've tried them all lol. I think seasonale may have helped some also.

I have been on BC for 4 years and it has done nothing for my acne even though my breakouts worsen near my period.

I was on Yaz (cleared acne, but caused me to have depression symptoms) and Femcon FE( seemed wonderful while it lasted). They both allowed my skin to be clearer than I remember ever seeing it, and as a bonus I lost weight! However, be sure to weigh in the possible side effects before beginning birth control pills. I have a Pulmonary Embolism (blood clot in my lung) which was possibly caused by the pills. Not everyone has side effects such as this and I know the pill has worked wonders for some people, but I just wanted to urge you to make sure you don't have family history or other risk factors before starting the pill. Since stopping the birth control pills, my acne has returned, but it certainly beats the alternative!

A side effect of hormonal BC is hair loss. It is not worth it. I repeat: IT IS NOT WORTH IT. I was on hormonal birth control for ten years. After stopping it this past june, one month later my hair just started coming out in clumps. I have (had) thick hair and now my ponytail is half the thickness it used to be. My trash cans get filled with my hair, my hair is all over the place. It doesn't stop falling out, even now in november. I asked my derm what was going on and he said this was a side effect of the hormonal BC.
I have done some research and i have found out it is more common than I thought in women who have stopped hormonal BC. I think women are too embarrassed or ashamed to say anything, or perhaps they don't put the two together. It may help for some people and perhaps it may help for you, but be aware of the side effects. I wish someone told me this ten years ago.

I've tried three different bc pills including Tilia, Yasmin, and Lutera. None have had any positive or negative effect on my acne. I am taking an antibiotic now for my acne that is called doxycycline. It helps more than any bc did.
