I'm 24 yrs old & having acne non-stop for 4 yrs. sometimes less, sometimes more.
I went to dermat last year & she gave me: minocycline 100mg at night for 3 months topical antibiotic adaplene after 3 months my acne reduced and i'd only 1 or 2 break outs in 2-3 days. she chamged my antibiotic to azithromycin & gave kojic acid for scars. continued adaplene. break outs continued, but few. but after i left medicine after 2 months (total 5 months of therapy) i started breaking out like before. she gave me azithromycin for 5 more days and told me to come after a month. i couldnt keep on taking antibiotics for so long, so i decided to change my dermat. yest i went to new dermat. she is supposed to cure those acne which the 1st one can't. she took proper history. she listened everything carefully. & adviced me to get thyroid tests and abdomen ultrasound (because i've painful periods) she gave me: supradyn multivitamin zinc tablets adaplene gel, but to apply for only 2-3 hrs at night tea tree & lavender oil face cleanser zinc pyrithrone shampoo for dandruff lacto calamine to apply before going out during day time 2 servings of fruits (melon, watermelon, papaya etc) lots of water DON'T TOUCH FACE!! let's see how it works... Good luck with that. I am in the same boat as you. I am 27 and have had acne for w while. in the past few months I have tried all sorts of things, but its seems the pill will work best for me in combination with a skin health supplement and benzoyl peroxide wash.
You mentioned something for scars? Did that work for you? A big problem that I am having is that I scar very easily.

i applied kojic acid for like a week, but my skin got very itchy (i once woke up itching my akin in sleep... lol!!) so right now i'm not applying anything for scars.
i've also developed small pits all over my face (sad sad) but my dermat first wants to stop new break outs so that i dont scar anymore (good thought) and later we'll focus on scars. if u have dark pigmentation or deep pits u can go for chemical peeling or laser (derma abrasions).

It's almost 15 days since I started above mentioned treatment. Till now I've had 4-5 small break-outs, really small. And abt 3-4 moderate to big size. Back is the same.
It's not horrible, but neither is it controlled. But then I'm just using Adaplene. Still gotta get my thyroid & usg done. Hoping to see my dermat on coming Monday. Just wanna get rid of these! They depress me sometime. Hope my skin is almost flawless by November (cousins wedding!!)

Hello there!
I had acne before, but now I can say I am starting to regain confidence with how I see myself in the mirror. I would have a pimple or two few days before my period but would eventually dry out in 5 days. I never consulted a dermatologist because I don't think I can afford the medical expenses. Good for you that an expert is by your side in your ordeal. I self-medicated with clindamycin 500 mg cap once-a-day for a week because I couldn't stand to stare at my reflection and I was literally avoiding mirrors! I search information in the internet and I consciously watch what I put on my face and other substances that might cause acne breakout. I observed that the cause is not purely hormonal, factors such as stress, hygiene and diet greatly affect my sensitive skin. I also like to share that I now use mild/gentle cleansing agent to my face. I use Johnson baby shampoo for my hair everyday (its gentle and can be used everyday) and kiddie toothpaste for my teeth. I bring along with me in my bag a hand sanitizer and I also regularly trim my finger nails. At night before retiring to bed, try to wear something to anchor your hair away from your face. Lastly, I regularly change my pillow case and sheets. For over 6 months now, acne is not much of my concern anymore. I hope, we can make it to the wedding with a more confident, radiant you!

Wow it seems like a good treatment!
Zinc, adaplene, zinc shampoo, tea tree are great choices! It worked for me..Now I am using Retin A, moisturizer, spf 40+ whenever I go out and sometimes peroxide benzoyl.I also take Diane 35, birth control pill for the ovarian cysts. I'll start taking zing tablets too. What's lacto calamine?

I've spent thousands on dr.s, treatments and medications.
For over 20 years I had breakouts, brief periods of clearing up, painful acne. I wanted to cry. I know I sound like a commercial, one day I looked at a proActive commercial for the thousandth time and said, $49.99, I've spent more on a crappy meal. I ordered it. It's been nearly 5 years and that is all I use. My skin is clear and I have very few small breakouts and only if I go for several days without using proActive. I have my son using it and my neighbor. If you have never tried it. Please do.
