Has anyone gotten a dermabrasion? Or something else where you go in to the dermatologist and they fix it there for you?
I have acne. I have lots of acne scars and red discoloration that won't go away. My skin also gets really dry and flaky. I've tried literally everything, and it's SLOWLY getting better. But I want to just spend a lot of money and get it over with faster... Posted on 03/14/09, 08:03 pm |

I just had a facial this weekend where the lady did a salisylic acid peel, then an enzyme peel, extracted then she did the microdermabrasion. I saw a difference after the first time! She said you go in once a week and they up the speed and it forces your skin to regenerate new skin cells. It 'sands' down the epidermis layer (scarring and acne) to new skin so that the redness will be gone. I was quoted $50 a session. But it varies. I would find a place you like and ask to try it out. You are considering and you want to know what it feels like, and does but you dont want to pay $150 a week to do it. Usually it is 6 sessions. But if you arent too bad and still have young skin, i was told only a few weeks. 2-3 would do the trick!
If you like exfoliation, it feels GREAT! It's like a massage :)

if you want to get it over with fast dermabrasion may not be the answer ... it takes many months to heal from it .. just google it. I know of a guy that had these amazingly inflamed red cheeks for over a year after getting dermabrasion. I would start milder .. like microderm as suggested in this other response. I think I am going to start with that as well but dermabrasion may be in my future. Its scary though ... your whole face is sand blasted basically .. it gets raw and bloody, scabs over, then slowly heals over months. You are supposed to look acceptable enough to go out again in about two weeks but you have red cheeks that stand out for many months after. It is supposed to be a great tool, but has risks (i.e. worsening of some scars, infection, etc.). I would start small likke i said above. Chemical peels are another option that are supposed to help. THey would really help with the red discoloration as they rip off the top layer of skin .. basically increasing the turnover and leaving fresher skin that hasnt yet come to the surface. They arent bad either .. i have tried this and your face is just pink for a few hours to maybe a day afterwards. good luck

dermabrasion ruined my skin. especially because they did it on my forehead which was acne free anyway... made the skin thin and irritable... then i started to get acne there too.
how ever it did get rid of deep oil xx

I've done microdermabrasion for over a year. It helped very slightly. My current dermatologist says that there really isn't anything I can have done to make the scars go away.
