Anyone have problems like mine?

I'm going insane trying to figure out what to do about my skin. Maybe someone here can help!
Firstly, I never had a problem with acne until I was 25. Then, out of nowhere, I developed severe cystic acne. It was so bad that my whole face was swollen and no topical treatments helped. Finally, when i went to visit my mom for Christmas that year, she was shocked and took me to see our family doctor. (I didn't have insurance and couldn't afford a dermatologist) He put me on antibiotics and eventually, the acne cleared up, leaving some pretty terrible scarring. I think it looked even worse because I am very fair skinned, and the redness was extremely noticeable. Since then, I have not had a breakout like that again, but I never have completely clear skin. There's always a red bump somewhere, even if it is not a huge pimple with fluid in it. I often get small, almost flat, areas of what seems like extremely tough dry skin over the red areas. I don't have blackheads, but still occasionally will get a large cyst that will never drain and sometimes takes months to disappear completely. I have been to the dermatologist, and he has given me cortisone injections for those which help immediately. Unfortunately, the cost is a lot for someone paying out of pocket. I have tried so many different things. I can deal with the scars, as they've faded from chemical peels and microdermabrasion, but I am almost 30. I don't want to walk around with acne all the time! I've had Retin-A, which dried me out so badly that my skin became chapped and red, Atralin which doesn't seem to do much of anything, I drink lots of water, I wash my face once and night and once in the morning with a mild glycerin soap, I have tried facials, masks, different moisturizers (Aveeno works really well for me and helps with redness), I've tried tea tree oil, Proactive, AcneFree, and god knows what else. Is there anything I'm missing?? I've also been on different birth control pills, to no avail. Thanks for any input you can give... Posted on 07/23/09, 06:07 pm |

I also forgot to add that of course I've used just about every single over the counter wash and creams like Oxy and Clearsil, which don't seem to help.
