My best freind is achon dwarf or a little person. She is the most wonderful person in the world. We have been freinds since we were 4 and 5 years old. Now as adults, I have moved on and moved away. She is still in our hometown living in a basement apt of her mom and dad. The sad thing is she is VERY ill. She has cronic pain and is on many meds..mostly narcotics which Iam afraid she is now addicted to. She is pretty much bedridden and until this past week, I had no idea she was in such a bad way.
She is living in poverty and in squallor. She has almost no care. Her parents live upstairs and only surface to verbally and sometimes physically abuse her. This has been going on for years now. She showed me evidence of the abuse.
I dont know what to do for her. I have called around for some help for her but since she has a dog noone will take her in to care for her. She will not get rid of the dog because she believes that she needs it for protection. Her parents have just kicked her out and she has no where to go.
What can i do? Where can she go? Is there a program (canadain) where people with forms of dwarfism can recieve help and guidance??
Please any suggestions welcome!!
Thanks
Avy

" Unfortunately, I have completely lost contact with her. I believe that she is no longer living with her parents in that horrible apt. She has (hopefully) moved in or gotten help from another freind, julia, that lived in the area that had offered to help her. Julia is a super nice girl and is really awesome when it comes to helping out. I have tried to contact my freind but both her and I have changed our numbers so we havent been able to contact each other. "

" Oh ya...I forgot to comment to those who had said that the authorities should be contacted.
The authorities have been to that house on numerous occasions. All times they have stated that my friend...Maryanne...should move out because she is an adult and recieves disability pension, and should be looking after herself!!! Nothing was done about her parents and the abuse. One lady police officer even told Maryanne that she should be thankful for parents that are so nice as to allow her to live there and that she should stop being abusive to them!!???!!! "
