Hi,
My 5 years old was just diagnosed with Add. We already knew he had a sensory problem wiht proprioception. He does fine in small groups but when there is too much going on he zones out. I even considered homeschooling at some point but I don't want to do that. He doesn't play with anybody at school, he is in kindergarden. Was the same story at preschool except he had behavioral problems. We worked on it with a chart and stickers and it is better. He has OT at school, he has trouble with his fine motor skills. At k, he can't finish anything the teacher asks. He at least tries very hard to follow directions. Doesn't finish lunch because he looks around him and can't focus. I started him on omega3 fish oil - omegabrite, I research the subject and it seems to be beneficial. The doctor wants to put him on stimulants but I want to give alternative therapies a try. Anybody has any luck with anything? I feel very lonely, my dh is also adhd and is in special ed but too anxious about it to help. There is no support here we live in the middle of nowhere. Thanks for listening, Nath76 Posted on 11/10/09, 01:11 pm |

Hi we are new to this site and this diagnosis as well. My son is 10 and we have known for a long time that it was a possibility. I home school him because it was too difficult after I had more babies to be at the school all the time. This has proven a very difficult challenge! You are not alone, and that is something I have seen since I've joined this group. It helps to know that there are people going through similar situations and some not so similar that still help you learn. We are also trying alternative remedies and so far have tried Melatonin which has really helped him sleep better. we have also been trying some natural drops that he adds to water, but so far I can't tell if it is helping. I found them by googling natural cures for ADD in Canada. I think they are called native remedies. If you need to chat sometime, I have a good listening ear ;)

Hi,
Thanks for your answer. I am a canadian living in USA. If you live in a big city, you can investigate The tomatis method, it is very effective for sensory problems. I might do it with my son over the summer,it is very demanding but I think it is working. I wish I had the courage to homeschool...at the same time, he loves going to school. So I will give school a try. Talk to you later.
