This is a 2 part question. The first have any of you heard of Metadate? My son's doctor put him on that today. He was on Concerta 36 and I told him that I thought that was a little to high for him. So he prescribes Metadate 30mg.
My son has a psychologist appointment on the 22nd. The psychologist told me to keep him on his meds that day while he did a 4 hour evaluation of him, so that he could dx properly. My question is, wouldn't it make sense to leave him off the meds so the doc could see the real boy without being on drugs? I talked with his doctor today about it and he said "No, don't give him any that day. This way he can see how he acts everyday when no meds are involved". So, if I do that, then want the psychologist be upset? Any thought, tips, advice. Thanks Posted on 04/06/09, 06:04 pm |

I am sure the Psychologist knows what he's doing. He probably wants to see how he is on medication and see if he's reacting well to it. My daughter's psychologist is wonderful!! And him and the pediatrician don't always see eye to eye. I kind of lean more towards taking the psychologists advice, but that's just me. He's the one that has to do the evaluating. if he wants him on it, I would leave him on it.

I agree with the Doctor, no meds are better for diagnosing. you might want to call the psychologist and doble check that day meds or not.explain your concern. I would call psychologist before you go

I just got Metadate CD filled on Thursday, still looking at the bottle to see if I should give it to my 12 old, Just wondering if you tried it and did you see any side effects and did it work, they only gave my son 10 mg. Have to do something grades are getting worse. He has had issues in staying on task since 1st grade and now in 5th. I and the school have plc him in special classes, so meds is not the first thing I went for. He is not hyper but can't stay on task. HELP!!!!

I waited about a week due to just be a little weary; however, he has been on it for 3 days and doing great. I am so relieved and excited that finally it looks like one is going to work. He is on 30mg and he has no mood swings at all. It is a blessing. He is doing excellent in school and coming straight home and doing his homework, without me even saying anything. It's like a different child from what we've previously dealt with. The only side effect that I can tell is the normal; which is no appetite. Good luck to you.

That's me too. I am really anxious to talk with the psychologist about the medications and all this Wednesday. Maybe he has some ideas that would help. I'm also going to see how he feels about keeping him off during the summer. I've heard mixed feelings on that one, so I'll just get his and go from there.
