was recently diagnosed with ADHD and was started on concerta. ive noticed it mentioned once or twice in a few posts but thought id take the direct aproach to see if i got a little more feedback on it. i know it takes time for meds to really kick in, but i really dont feel a single bit different at all on it. yes, the day seems to go by slower, but thats it. has anyone else ever been on concerta and if so how was it for you. thanks in advance

" Wanted to let you know that I just started my 10 year old son on 27 mg on fri morning. So far his appetite has decreased & he complains of pains - not in his stomach, but like hes' wanting to throw up. this is only his 4th day, but we practiced with orange tic tacs on swollowing & it worked like a charm! and... i conned him stating that if he can take it for 3 days straight with no complaints, no problems, then he can go to the movies & choose a movie!!!
(needless to say we have to wait until the 10th to see dragonballz i think lol) "

" My son is on 36 mg. The 18 mg didn't work, the 27 worked for a while and now I do not like the 36mg. This dosage, my son doesn't eat at all. I feed him breakfast before I give it to him and then nothing for the rest of the day. I honestly believe this dose is too high, but with no middle ground; he is going to have get on another one. I do not like seeing him in a daze all the time. He seems depressed and sad and zoned out all the time. He also chews on his fingers, so bad that 2 of his fingers, the nail is almost gone. We go today to the docs to talk about things. "

" CoolBeans, It sounds like the dosage is too high or this is the wrong med. I would back it up to 27 for a while and give it a week or so. Otherwise dump it and move onto something else. My son eats on Concerta great, after not eating a thing for years on other meds. I am sorry you are having this trouble. "

" Today is day 5 & he almost refused to take his meds. He was a very angry boy this morning & was almost "his old self". Then he took the meds knowing that he was not going to be able to go to baseball tonight if he didnt. He's so proud he can swollow it so easy! "

" thank u all for ur comments. im up to 54mg of the concerta now. just started this dose this morning. try this for a month and then see from there. when i was on the lower dose i would have a couple moments of clarity a day and that was it. then it felt like it quit again. so he upped me yesterday and started it this morning. hopin for clarity. my impulsivity got the best of me when i first got meds for this that i got all this stuff for me to do while stuck at home(close to bed rest due to back issues) but with the meds whackin out i gave up on everything. i was soooo frustrated as well. but hopefully this will do much better n can get back to work on my projects. im so tired of nevr finishing NETHING. lol plus im WAY to impulsive. hehehe thank u all for ur caring, ur thoughts, replies, ect. hugs to u all "

" I was on concerta.. and it ruined me... it was fine at first but soo addicting and i had to keep going up.. made me paranoid aggressive i would lash out at people had tics, shaking hands, smoked like a train, didnt hardly eat. I was down to 124 and im 5'6 i was tinnnyyy. Not in a good way, lookin back i looked disgusting... I hope your experience was better than mine. I did help me focus but it took over my life... and i was only at the 54mg... and i was 19 at the time.. "

" My son has been on Concerta for many years & he has no side effects. It definaltey has helped him in school but not so much socially. He has no problems with appetite, despite being a picky eater & also no problems sleeping (common side effects). It did take a week or so to kick in when he first started. He started with 27 mgs but over the years as he grown, moved up to 54mgs. "

" back again a few months later...
my son was moved up from 27 (which did well for a week) up to 36 now. His appetite is fine, but once he comes off of it... he just WONT stop eating. He has what the doc calls "rebound" so he now takes 2mg of Abilify.
I really think he just needs a small dose later in the day of concerta though. "
