hey. its making him gain weight? Is it because its making him eat more? thats the only thing i can think of. because my mom is on it and it helps her appetite. maybe he can try concerta?

I didn't gain weight while I was on it, but that is only my one experience.

I've heard of people losing weight on the adderal before, maybe he is just readjusting after coming off of that?

Thanks for the replies. It is so good to hear from others that have taken the medication. He is also taking Lexapro so maybe that is causing the weight gain.

That could be. Lexapro, and many other SSRI's, have been known to cause weight gain. If it's a major issue, there are other anti-depressant or anti-anxiety medications he can try instead. Otherwise, a good exercise and diet regimen can usually even things out again.

that's very interesting, Lynndvq. I'm on Strattera and it pretty much takes my appetite away..

I too have notice appetite decrease with my son who is on Strattera.

i took my son off of it. it took away his appetite and he stayed very irritable while on it.

I've been on Strattera for 3 weeks now and it is DEFINITELY an appetite killer for me. (41 yr old male) The good part is that I've dropped 4.5 pounds as well so that's not a bad thing since I've been trying to lose ~ 30 lbs. since early fall. Beware the dry mouth - drink LOTS of water as dehydration can magnify any bad side effects, like nausea. (dark urine is a sign of dehydration to watch for.)

Hellow. my child is on strattra also and had the same thing happened to her. I had to control all foods and snacks daily.She was on concerta in the past and had to stop taking it cuz there was bad mood swings comeing from a child 5 or 6 at the time. This is my child do what feel is best for yours!
