My son is taking Strattera and seems to be gaining weight. Has anyone else experienced weight gain with Strattera? He was on Adderal but it made him really anxious and irratable.

" I didn't gain weight while I was on it, but that is only my one experience.

I've heard of people losing weight on the adderal before, maybe he is just readjusting after coming off of that? "

" Hi,
Thanks for the replies. It is so good to hear from others that have taken the medication. He is also taking Lexapro so maybe that is causing the weight gain. "

" That could be. Lexapro, and many other SSRI's, have been known to cause weight gain. If it's a major issue, there are other anti-depressant or anti-anxiety medications he can try instead. Otherwise, a good exercise and diet regimen can usually even things out again. "

" I've been on Strattera for 3 weeks now and it is DEFINITELY an appetite killer for me. (41 yr old male) The good part is that I've dropped 4.5 pounds as well so that's not a bad thing since I've been trying to lose ~ 30 lbs. since early fall. Beware the dry mouth - drink LOTS of water as dehydration can magnify any bad side effects, like nausea. (dark urine is a sign of dehydration to watch for.) "
