where's the cut off for ADHD diagnosis

I have been researching like usual and every condition from A-Z seems like it can fall in the ADHD category--I am beginning to feel it's a catch all category so the dr's don't have to seek out the true condition. This happened to me before with IBS--25+ years later I finally find out I was grain intolerant which was causing malabsorption issues. I wouldn't have if I wasnt persistant and kept after the drs. Every test they ran showed nothing-- thousand of dollars later, loss time from work, missing out on life because I was miserable, and I finally figured it out on my own, doing my research as I continue to do. Now my subject is my 7 year old son. I fought 4 years to get him tested for Gluten intolerance because deep within myself I knew he was--but I had to have proof so I could get the dietary restrictions at school. Apparently a parents word to restrict certain things are not good enough anymore. Sure enough his levels of intolerance were 10x that of a child his age. So one piece to the puzzle solved. Now this ADHD diagnosis--I am not at all confident he has it--my gut tells me he doesn't--he has common symptoms of it, however he has far more symptoms of global dyspraxia and to date I have only one other person that agrees and that is a Neuro Chiropractor whose diagnosis doesn't mean squat in the world of traditional medicine or school. Since the ADHD symptoms can be found in numerous disorders--how do you get the traditional drs/school to see beyond those symptoms and truly diagnosis a person for what they have? I wish I was weathly because I would open up a clinic for those who can look outside the box and treat a person as a whole being and not just a symptom. I loved the NC but unfortunately his program was just too much of an expense for us to commit to. That is another thing--cost--everyone is out to get rich--why can't they make things that are healthier and better less costly so the average person can afford them. I am so frustrated and disgruntled over everything and it all boils down to our governing system--they have the ability to change things, but they don't because if they did, they wouldn't be able to live the life of luxury they have come to expect. Why are countries like the UK so much further advanced on disorders such as Dyspraxia, and we are so far behind? I could go on and on and on but I won't
I just want someone to answer me as to how to get beyond an ADHD diagnosis? Posted on 07/03/12, 01:35 pm |
