Hey Faithfully--You know me I truly prefer the homeopathics over persciption the only con I can say that hits home to many people are:
1) out of pocket costs(no insurance to fall back on) 2) takes longer for them to become effective For me the con's are minimal compared to the benefits.

Sowle: how's the Synaptol working for you? I'm seriously considering that instead of the Attend and Memorin.
How long have you been on the Synaptol now?

For me, the big concern with herbal remedies is that they're not regulated by any government agency. There are no standards manufacturers must follow. We still give our son melatonin to help him sleep, but I can tell you that 1 mg. of melatonin with one brand is NOT the same as another. I've found wide variations.
My comfort level is much higher when I can talk to a pharmacist about exactly what's in a product, potential interactions with other meds or foods, and possible side effects.

Thank you CAWriter. The natural is not regulated in the same manner as prescription strength, but I do know many very educated naturopaths and clinical nutritionists that are very knowledgeable in this area. I can understand your concern, but I do know with a little extra effort to get information from those that do know natural supplements will help alleviate those concerns greatly.
I'm so glad you have found answers for your child with prescription strength meds. We may have to revert back to one in the future as well.

Synaptol is working great for his behavioral issues and keeping him on a good sleeping pattern but as far as comprehension, attention, forgetfulness, etc etc no.

Frankly I am glad the FDA has not gotten there rights to regulate herbal or homeopathics, because right now they are not controlled by big pharmaceutical companies, so quality labs can put quality ingredients in there product without being controlled by FDA or big Pharma. Homepathic and herbals are not miracles, they are just alternatives to using chemical/synethic drugs that leave alot or residue in the body, most of time without all the side effects that come with traditional medications.
My son has been on the synaptol now for 3 months, we originally started it to see if it would help him focus and controll his anger outburst. Well we got 1 out of 2 so far, but they told me it may take up to 6 months before we see more improvements. The school said he did better in the last 6 weeks of school then he did all year. So something is definitely helping and that time it was only synaptol we were using. Unfortunately we have resigned to using 1/2 mg of Intuniv for the next 8 weeks to see if that helps any. If it doesn't then we will stop that. As my husband and I believe, its the dyspraxia he has that is causing everything and it wont get better without the daily therapies and reminders. We are currently building an outside obstacle course-we have the balance beam in place, river rocks(flat stones from the yard) to cross over, next is the wall climb with a slide to come down on, then monkey bars and bow and arrow target to help with hand eye coordination. ---- Everything to help with motor skills.---After all that, playtime in the pool. This concepts helps with all kinds of motor skill issues, attention deficits, even kids with autism benefit from playing on an obstacle course--so we are becoming quite the creators in our own yard. Since he is so interested in Ninja's and Ninja Warrior competions we thought why not instill that at home. He loves to be outside and being an only child he gets bored playing by himself--so this is something we can do as a family as well. Faithfully if you have any questions about the Synaptol just email me I will be happy to tell you everything I know about it since I use it as well.--For me it helps me focus and be more attentive, so I know it works on those issues, it's just not being effective for my son. That just instills in us the thought that it's the dyspraxia more so then ADHD. I am looking into the idea of possible APD as well which is yet another disorder many times misdiagnosed as ADHD.

Thank you for the reply Sowle! I also think my son's diagnosis should be less ADD and more APD and dysgraphia. The APD causes poor memory recall and hence his inability to remember multiplication facts and the dysgraphia keeps him from practicing the much needed math problems.
I will be ordering the Synaptol this week and hope to start him on it by the beginning of next week. I watch very closely not to overdo anything and to make sure he does not exceed vitamin level recommendations.

I sent you a message on the other post to send me some insight about your sons APD--I want to learn more about that from people who go through it because now that we know my son's hearing is just fine, I want APD considered. Now his dr all of a sudden wants to see him before they will authorize a script for PT/OT--which frankly is a crock because she did not hesitate to contact a neurologist for him to be seen, when she is well aware of what he's been going through. I am so sick of playing this game with the drs.
Also we are starting the slant board today--I will let you know how he likes it and how he does with it. PS I wanted you know that he started in his behavioral issues when we stopped the synaptol when giving him the Intuniv, so now we are going back to they synaptol 2x a day.
