I feel like giving up

Ahhh!

So I am a college student with ADD, and God only knows what other learning disorders I have. It is a day to day struggle for me to get out of bed and go to class. I don't have the hyperactive type of ADD, I have the just completely out of it type of ADD. I don't like going to class because I hear anything and everything that is going on in the classroom.

I have been on almost every ADD medicine that is known to man kind. I just want to give up and drop out of college every day, but I am not letting that be an option for me. I feel absolutely brain dead after one 50 minute lecture because my brain just can't take any more. I want to find a support group anywhere, either online, or close to where I live but I am having no luck.

Please, anyone, help, write your words of wisdom, anything Cry

" You know I have replied to your other post. Everytime I see or read your entry my heart goes out. Again, DO NOT GIVE UP...you can do this. I am not sure if you are medicated or not, if you are getting psychotherapy or not, but none of that matters to me. YOU CAN DO THIS! Email me or add me to your friend list and we can write back and forth. I am studying for bar exam but I check this site daily since I've joined (shortly before you) b/c I believe support is important. Please, you can do this. If possible, contact me sooner than later as I am sure midterms probably already took place and we want to make sure you are straight for finals. God bless! "

" I don't know everything you are going though but I can feel for you. My 7yr old son Chase has ADHD and another called Central Auditory Processing Disorder which causes you to have problems filtering out background noises, trouble focusing and worse needing more time in class to process what you just heard, read,or whatever. It is a daily battle find a happy medium but you are a strong person, look you made it into college pat yourself on the back!! you just need to remeber to take a deep breathe. you may want to check into the CAPD a little more no there is now ADHD meds for this just a little chane of how you adjust to things. you are awesome and don't give up you came to far and are inspiring people you've never met. " Hi there,
I am so sorry to hear how hard this is for you. My daughter is 6 and has a brain injury. She has also been diagnosed with ADD & mild Cerebral Palsy. She has severe attention & focus problems. We have just started a new kind of therapy called Neurofeedback. It is a very amazing and is a process to re-train her brain. I am not sure where you live but, you could research it! You should check out Dr. Johnathan Walker on Google. You can find all the info you need there. Good luck!
P.S. Don't give up! "

" College student here, too. I have inattentive ADHD, and class is a a struggle. I also have a full time job, so by the time I get home, I don't feel like doing school work.

I hear you on the motivation issues. Sounds like you are fighting through a lot of resistance. Enough to stress you out. I don't know you or anything, but perhaps deep inside you don't like your major?

I find that if I'm resisting a responsibility that I'm supposed to be excited about, there is an underlying issue there. If it's left unchecked, it may lead to more frustration.

Keep posting here. There are good people here. "

" Hey hon, I'm the mom of an ADD 7th grader and I feel your pain. Have you checked with your college advising office to see if they have support for you? Many universities offer help/support groups for students with learning issues. It's worth checking into. There are also some mentoring programs - I work with a guy who is ADD and he is part of one. You might do a search on that.

College is tough, but it's worth it! Hang in there, you can make it. "
