" My son is 13 years old and last spring his doctor put him on the same medication. I had found that it did not last long enough for him. He would take it at 7am and would need a second dose at 11 am and then it would only last until about 1pm. We just took him off it because he is having to many problems in school staying focused and the doctor could not change the dosage.
But, all people are different and what may have not worked for us may not be the same for you. I do believe one should try it and see. From what i understood is that it does have lower side effects compered to other ADHD meds.

Good luck. ;) "

" FocalinXR worked quite well for my son in eliminating symptoms. He gets through the school day and through homework. He is 10 and has been benefiting from it for the past 2 years. He did have the loss of appetite and some difficulty falling asleep. I have found that as long as he takes his dose before 8am that it doesn't effect his sleep as bad. As for the appetite.....if I can squeeze in some dose-free days, his appetite comes back with a vengence.

The only downside is that the higher the dose...the worse the rebound. His is currently above max dose (20mg, he takes 40). We are getting ready to go off FocalinXR and try a new med. As with any narcotic, your body builds a resistance and requires more for the same effect. "

" Be careful of side effects. We discovered it was causing major irratability in my daughter, age 15. We didn't figure this out for months because she also has depression and anxiety. We thought it was related to that. Once we took her off the focalin, she was in a much better mood most days! "
