Advice:
Fiance' with ADHD

Hello fellow dailystrengthers!
I am in the support group for Rheumatoid Arthritis and noticed there was a group here for ADHD/ADD. I am ridiculously in love with a sweet man who has lived his whole life with ADHD. I was just wondering if ya'll had any advice for me on being a better future wife for him! I want and have been trying to accomodate to his needs and reading through ya'lls discussions has helped immensely already.
I am in my last semester at BYU and majoring in therapeutic recreation and I am required to write a research paper and I would love to find out more about ADHD and whether or not recreational activities would help with its symptoms. My fiance has encouraged me and supports me in this, but I would love ya'lls thoughts as well. He does not take medication, but tries his best daily to focus when needed and I always try to make him feel comfortable to let lose anytime so he won't become exhausted from a whole day of hyperfocusing. I have never thought of ADHD as a disability or problem, only a brilliant mind that doesn't work to what society thinks is "normal" I say screw normal haha ;) Anyway, please help me in any advice and if I am stomping on ya'lls territory I am sorry, you are more than welcome to come stop on mine in the RA support group!!!

" Would this involve interaction with other children or one on one? My little guy is five and has severe ADHD , I tend to be very nervous putting him in a group situations because his behavior can be unpredicable somtimes and other parents can be incredibly judgemental about adhd kids. I would love for him to have a "safe" place where he could do things with other children, work on social skills, and have fun. I hope this info helps. "

" I have heard that ADHD can be genetic, so I would love to learn ore about children with ADHD as well, since I will most likely have a child who has it... I wish your childs safe place could be another group of just ADHD children, wouldn't that be fun! ;) My fiance and I were talking about making a school JUST for children with ADHD because they are so smart, they just aren't stimulated enough in regular schools. " Hey Steel, just saw your post. I'm married to a wonderful ADD man - and it's challenging at times. The very things that drew us to them (their humor, their unpredictability, their creativity) can also be annoying at times. My best advice to you is to be PATIENT and don't expect him to act like a non-ADHD person. My hubby is not medicated and I wish that he was, sometimes. Like when I have reminded him 7 times to take out the trash and he forgets. Like when he's driven to my office 10 times and still can't find it without me talking him through it turn by turn, etc. etc. Most of all, love him love him love him. I have an ADD child as well (from my first marriage) and having the two of them at once can be a challenge! "
