Yeah well i see the situation in the US and the rest of the world isn't getting any better..and I wish it would. But for all of you who are still eating think about how lucky you have it. My fiance and I have both been out of work and homeless for 8 months. There is no help for people like us where we live. I cannot even get food stamps because I do not have an address to give them at dss. He just lost work because the economy (he was in construction) we lost our car...our home and our self worth. Neither one of us have an education, yes our fault. But we come from a resort area where most people go directly from high school to work. Winter here is so hard. I cant even get a job a Burger King because she has cut hours so much. So next time you are thinking about how sad it is you might have to get rid of your 2nd or 3rd car think about the people who are less fortunate than you. We havent eaten in 3 days..but luckily we have obtained a floor to sleep on....
Sorry if I sound bitter I do not mean any harm..just needed to vent. And everyone at Ds is sonice about letting people vent. Posted on 11/07/08, 03:24 pm |

I feel for your situation.
While this did not happen in your state a federal judge made a ruling: her's a link http://www.dispatch.com/live/conten... Basically what it says: "A federal judge in Ohio has ruled that counties must allow homeless voters to list park benches and other locations that aren’t buildings as their addresses." Maybe insist that they allow you to list whereever you are staying as your address. I am afraid there are going to be many many more people in similar situations before things get any better. There is just no way our Government can sustain on the spend and THEN tax mentality it has grown to be. It will take YEARS even for Sen. Obama to be able to impact the economy in a positive way because it is in such sad shape. Daily, the paper lists companies that are laying off THOUSANDS. If you are able, round up some pop cans to turn in for scrap - check local churches many have postings of people offering work on a temp basis to elderly homeowners for pay. Sorry I can't be more positive - but in the long run we all will be stronger struggling through these times. Good luck with your situation and may your journey get better.

I am lucky. I have a job. It pay only moderately. But, I have to work 84hrs a week. I have not had a vacation in 9yrs. I didn't do anything wrong, but I was home so little, my wife and kids left me. Since then, I have had two heart attacks and a quadruple by pass heart surgery. I am trying to make the best of my days.
I have been working like this since Ronald Reagan was elected. They say there will be no Social Security. I will not live long enough to see it. If I keep doing what I am doing, I will only live for 2 more years. My present plan is to die on the job. There is a long shot chance that I can get our of this business and be in a position where I can improve my health. I am 54. I took a test for my real age. It came out to be 101.

My heart aches for your situation. It has been very hard for us, but stellar compared to where you're at. That is what has kept me going, knowing it could definitely be worse. Is there no soup kitchens or church's with food banks. I can't believe your community would let people be on the street AND hungry. I AM GOING TO PARY FOR YOU RIGHT NOW and I will continue to hold you and all others in your dire situation, up in prayer.

You obviously have access to a computer. If the area you live in isn't providing appropriate services for you, try to search out any areas immediately surrounding your town that may have services you can access right now like shelter and food pantries.
I also highly recommend www.freecycle.org. Once you access the website, type in your town or zip code. You will then be directed to a freecycle chapter nearest where you live. Postings are online and people just give all kinds of things away from household items, school and office supplies, clothing (some food items like canned goods) and much more. Good luck to you.

Above is a link regarding eligability requirements for food stamps. There's nothing in there about having to have a residence, but every state may have difference requirements. It's worth pursuing though.

Thank you for your reply..I have already spoken to Social services and they denied me because in this county they do not promote vagrants. But since we are technically staying with some one I can get help now. But I have to figure out how to get to social services now. THey are ten miles away and there is no public transportation here and I have no friends who can afford the gas there. I cannot walk because of my physical limitations. But I will get there some how. All the food banks here and churches work with social services too so I HAVE TO GO THERE! So frustrating.. again thank you all.!

Yours is just one example of how we neglect people in our own country. I cannot even imagine going without food for three days...sometimes I eat peanut butter sandwiches for dinner (and like it if I have a glass of milk to go with it) and I live in a tiny mobile home; it is a roof over my head. I go without a lot, but I don't go without food--even if it's just eggs and toast. My heart goes out to you, and I wish for better things for you. It may sound stupid, and I am not a stupid person, but perhaps this is the year, the time, we should all learn how to write to our Congressmen. The amounts of money we send to other countries is incomprehensible to me...I cannot even calculate that high...and it hurts me to know there are so many in our own country in need who could and should be helped. Best wishes to you...I don't know what I would do, but I have indeed thought about it...I do know it could happen to me as well...

And please let us all remember that there are consequences to who we elect. For the last 30 thirty years we have been electing greedy corporatists who use wedge issues to keep us divided as a country while they steal from us and our children. Think about a $10T debt and think who got us to this unimaginable figure. Stay involved in politics and read up on all the issues. Don't let divisive issues like gay marriage and pro-life or pro-choice issues continue to divide us as a nation. Electing Obama is a start but we must stay involved and we must not be fooled again by voting for politicians who are against our best interests. GGMom get involved and I bet you will feel like you are doing something about your situation. Good luck to you and I hope things will improve for you and your family.
